If you've got a dog in Brisbane, you already know the ritual: you lace up your walking shoes, clip on the lead, head out for that morning walk along the river or through the local park — and then the hunger strikes. You want brunch. But will they let your dog in?
On Brisbane's southside, the dog-friendly cafe scene has grown significantly in recent years, driven by a community that genuinely loves bringing their dogs everywhere. But not all "dog-friendly" cafes are created equal. Some tolerate dogs. The best ones genuinely welcome them — with water bowls, outdoor space, and staff who'll actually pat your pup while they take your order.
Here's our honest 2026 guide to the best dog-friendly cafes on Brisbane's southside, from someone who knows the area well.
"The best dog-friendly cafe isn't just one that allows dogs — it's one where your dog is as welcome as you are."
Bliss Hospitality TeamBefore we dive in, it's worth setting some standards. A truly dog-friendly cafe should offer:
Spacious al fresco decks or courtyard areas where dogs are allowed and comfortably integrated into the dining scene.
Freshly refreshed water bowls distributed throughout the outdoor zone or gladly brought out by staff.
Adequate space between tables so leads do not get tangled and dogs of all breeds can rest peacefully.
Staff members who genuinely love animals and treat your pet as a valued guest rather than a nuisance.
We're biased, but we're also genuinely proud of what we've built here. Bliss on Riverside sits directly on the Brisbane River in Tennyson, and our outdoor riverside deck is one of the few truly spacious, open-air dog-friendly dining spaces on the southside.
We provide water bowls, our staff are genuine dog lovers, and the setting — river views, morning sun, fresh brunch — makes it one of the most relaxing dog-friendly brunch experiences in Brisbane. After brunch, the nearby riverside path is perfect for a morning walk.
The modern Australian brunch menu is excellent (we may be biased) and the specialty coffee is some of the best on the southside. Full dietary options including gluten-free and vegan.
Todd & Pup has built a loyal following on the southside for being genuinely dog-centric — it's in the name. The cafe is casual, walk-in friendly, and popular with the local dog-walking crowd. They're a bit further from the river than we are, but the vibe is fun and relaxed.
Another Tennyson option, River La Vie at 190 King Arthur Terrace has a pleasant outdoor area and accepts dogs in their al fresco section. The menu skews family-friendly and they have a licensed bar. Worth considering if you're already in the area.
Further up the river, West End and South Bank have a handful of dog-friendly options — several cafes along Vulture Street and around Davies Park welcome dogs in their outdoor areas, particularly on weekend mornings when the area fills with dog walkers heading to or from the market.
These are a longer drive from the deeper southside but worth the trip if you're combining brunch with a West End weekend walk.
We're located right on the Brisbane Riverwalk — one of the most popular dog-walking routes on the southside. It felt wrong not to be genuinely welcoming to dogs. So when we set up our outdoor riverside deck, dog-friendliness wasn't an afterthought — it was part of the design.
We've invested in proper outdoor seating with enough space between tables for leads, water bowls that get refreshed regularly, and a team that actually enjoys meeting the dogs that come through. (Some mornings, the dogs outnumber the kids and we're perfectly happy about that.)
Our riverside al fresco deck is ready with fresh water bowls, local Brisbane coffee, and plenty of space for your dog. Walk the river path and stop by for the perfect morning.
